A warm climate year-round with beautiful beaches, there’s never a bad time to visit this popular holiday on the shores of the Red Sea, but when to visit completely depends on what you’re looking to get from your holiday.

If you’re looking escape the cold of the UK and enjoy some sunshine, then the winter months of December, January and February are a great time to visit Hurghada.

During these months, the average temperature is around 23C, making it perfect for relaxing on the beach or exploring the surrounding areas.

If watersports are more your thing then visit between June and August, when the weather and sea temperatures are at their warmest, perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

The weather is also hot and dry during the summer, with temperatures reaching up to 35C.

But if value for money and a balance between summer and winter is what you’re looking for, then opt for the shoulder seasons of March to May or September to November.

Outside of the peak tourist season, you’ll find prices considerably cheaper during these times, both for hotels and flights.

And with temperatures between 20C and 30C, you won’t have any complaints about the weather.

Here are some things to consider when deciding on the best time to visit Hurghada

  • Summer: Being on the edge of the Sahara, you won’t be surprise that Hurghada has a desert climate. This means it’s generally hot and dry. Summer temperatures can reach over 40C (104F!) making it very hot and uncomfortable for some people. If you’re travelling at this time of year, make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the strong sun. We’d also advise drinking lots of water and keeping out of the Midday sun.
  • Winter: Temperatures at this time of year can be mild, with an average of around 20°C (68°F). Many people prefer this as a more comfortable time to visit.
  • Rainfall: There’s very little rainfall in Hurghada throughout the year, and when it does happen it’s almost exclusively in the winter months. When it does rain, be aware that some of the outdoor activities that you might be looking forward could be disrupted. It’s the risk you take travelling in the winter, but on the whole the temperatures are more bearable if you want to avoid the long, hot dry summer.
  • How busy it gets: Hurghada is a popular tourist destination, but there are some seasons and times of year that are busier than others. The big crowds come in the summer, when many people come to enjoy the warm weather and water activities. Want it a bit quieter? Well, that’s another reason to consider a Spring or Autumn trip.
  • Prices: The time of year that you visit also has a huge influence on the cost of your trip. It’s no surprise that the most expensive prices occur during the peak tourist season in the summer months. Travel off peak and the price of hotels, holidays and flights will drop.
